Green-winged Teal is a scarce visitor to both North and South Uist. It is rare on Lewis with 21 records between 1977-2017, and Benbecula with 17 records between 1980-2021, and very rare on Barra (2009, 2020), and St. Kilda (1980, 1986, 1987, 2009, 2010).

All records are of males as female and juvenile birds are essentially indistinguishable from Teal and has been recorded in all months except from July to September when the males are not in identifiable plumage.

Some birds have been long-stayers and others returning birds.

There are no records from Harris or Vatersay.

Green-winged Teal was first recorded at Lochportain, North Uist on 24th October 1938 when a drake was shot. There were no further records until 1977 when a bird was seen on Lewis.
